Icy birthday card

Hello stampers! I hope you are well and had a good weekend.

It is time for a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and this week our theme is Add Some Text. Text, words and letters are perhaps my favorite thing to add to projects. Text can be used for sentiments, backgrounds, small details, textures and many other things. During October Alison Bomber is our guest designer. I hope you will visit her blog and look at what she has created for the challenge.

Layers of ink - Icy Birthday Card Watercolor tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I went with a wintery birthday card this week, using text as sentiments and in the background. Simon Says Stamp have a brand new release called Sugar & Spice and I used the Cool Birthday set to stamp the scene on this card.

Stamp Simon Says Stamp Cool Birthday.

Die cut a scalloped circle from watercolor paper using Simon Says Stamp Chunky Scallop Circles. Stamp one of the penguins and one of the seals from Cool Birthday on watercolor paper. Stamp the party ball on silver paper and clear emboss.

White emboss hugs from Simon Says Stamp Love Letter.

White-emboss 'hugs' in the sky using Simon Says Stamp Love Letter.

Paint with Daniel Smith watercolor paint.

Paint the ice, igloo and word with watercolor paint. I used Daniel Smith Amazonite Genuine, Mayan blue and Lunar Black. Draw a horizon line with a pencil.

Paint the sky with Mayan Blue and Lunar Black.

Paint the sky, making it darker towards the top.

Paint the water with a fairly dry brush, to get a choppy effect. Add shading to the ice floe.

Paint the penguin and the seal with Daniel Smith watercolors.

Paint the seal and the penguin, using similar shades. I also added a mix of Raw Umber and French Ultramarine, for the brown/grey shade and Pearlescent White.

White emboss Tim Holtz School Desk.

Die cut the largest scalloped circle from watercolor paper. White emboss the alphabet stamp from Tim Holtz School Desk.

Paint the background with Daniel Smith Amanzonite.

Die cut the cardbase from folded black cardstock, but don't cut the entire fold.

I gave the letters an ombre effect, by making the lighter towards the top - the opposite of the sky.

Cut out the partygoers and adhere them and the ball with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Perfect Foam Tape. There are also coordinating Simon Says Stamp Cool Birthday dies. Here you can also see the pearlescent effect.

I also splattered the card with a little Winsor & Newton Permanent White Gouache.

Stamp the second sentiment in the sea. It is also from the Simon Says Stamp Cool Birthday set.
