Autumn 2024 Journal Page

Hello friends! We had the first night of below freezing here tonight. Today I have an autumn art journal page to share with mixed media techniques.

I worked in my Small Creative Journal and created a mixed media background partly with leftover paste and paint. It was paired with bright autumn colors and some bold letters. The leaves were die cut and I added three stamped sentiment strips. Let's start.

I don't have a photo of the first steps. Coat the page with gesso and when dry, apply texture paste through Tim Holtz Deco Leaf stencil. When the paste is dry, paint it with Distress Paint and mist with water to blend.

Stamp the background with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter background.

Stamp the title with Tim Holtz cool Sign Painter letters. I used Simon Says Stamp Sherbet and Amethyst Pawsitively Saturated inks. Die cut with coordinating Sign Painter Letters and Sign Paint Numbers dies by Simon Says Stamp. 

Ink lightly around the edges with grey ink.

Die cut Tim Holtz Sizzix Artsy Leaves from scrap pieces of watercolor or inky paper. Assemble the leaves with glue.

I really like the textures in the background of this page.

Glue the leaves to the page. The sentiments were stamped with Tim Holtz Tiny Text on inky paper.

These Sign Painter letters and numbers are so cool and it is great to have coordinating dies with them, for when you can't stamp directly to the background or if you want a bright color on a dark background.

I also added to Design Tape Trims to the page, and some more leaves. The flower was made with Simon Says Stamp Crimped Florals.

Scorched Timber turns into a really cool shade of warm brown when mixed with blue.

Happy snowmen tag

Hi friends! I hope you had a good weekend and got some (or even better, a lot of) crafty time.

Time flies and the autumn semester always feels very short. We had our first night of frost tonight. This week we have a Christmas/Winter theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. I hope you will join us! Don't miss the gorgeous project by our September guest designer Kerry B. 

I love snowmen and creating snow in different ways on projects and had fun creating these fuzzy snowmen. The background is watercolor paint. I also used a few other interesting surfaces: matte silver paper, velvet paper and vellum. Experiment and see what you can come up with.

I used Tim Holt's Vault Winter Wishes set for the snowmen, snowflake and lamp post. I wanted dimension and die cut the snowmen quite a few times from thick white cardstock first. The lamp post was die cut from black paper and from Simon Says Stamp Matte Silver Cardstock. The carrot, twig arms and parts of the hats and scarves were die cut from Simon Says Stamp cardstock and the rest from left-over watercolored paper.

 I die cut the front of the snowmen from Simon Says Stamp Velvet Luxury Cardstock. The back piece was die cut from black glitter cardstock and I cut a piece of Lemon glitter cardstock to glue behind the light.

Glue them together with Simon Says Stamp Craft Glue and add a Clear Pawsitively Dazzling Gem to the hats.

The background was painted with watercolor paint and then I crumbled up a piece of plastic wrap and placed on top. Leave the plastic in place until the paint is dry. The plastic wrap in the photo is not the one that I used (that had been tossed in the bin already). 

I die cut a few snowflakes from the matte silver paper too.

The large snowflake from Vault Winter Wishes was die cut from Simon Says Stamp Vellum. The sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Seasons Greetings.

I added more snow in the form of Clear Pawsitively Dazzling Gems. 

The snowmen are very fuzzy, with a hint of glitter. The darker blue to the right is also Velvet paper.

This sentiment was the perfect length for a border.

Here you can maybe see the glitter buttons and eyes better.

The plastic wrap technique form cool patterns that made me think of icy crystals.

I dyed May Arts Faux Wrinkled Silk Ribbon with dye ink and used a piece of organza which I found on my desk.

Magical Zinnias Card

Hi friends! Fall is here and most of the flowers in the garden have stopped blooming, but the amazing zinnias are still going strong, in all their colorful beauty.

I made a card inspired by the colors of the zinnias still blooming in our little garden. The flowers and the background were dry embossed and watercolored with a quick and easy technique. 

Start by misting watercolor paper with water and emboss in Simon Says Stamp Zippy Zinnias folder. Die cut the three flowers with the dies included in the set, mist with water and emboss in the folder.

Apply a little Distress Micro Glaze to the flowers with your finger. Also apply Micro Glaze to the zinnias which will be visible on the background and on the stems.

Paint the background in shades of green and sprinkle salt on top. Different colors react differently to the salt technique and these shades of green only gave a subtle texture. Experiment with different colors and paints. Let dry and then remove the salt.

Paint the zinnias with Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor paint. Drop brown into the center of the flowers before the paint is dry.

When dry, stamp the background with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter Background and emboss with white paint.

Shape the lose flowers a little and then adhere with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitivily Perfect Foam Tape.

Don't worry if you get some script stamping on the flowers, it just adds texture.

The sentiment was die cut with Tim Holtz new Vault Seasonal Sketch letters.

Stamp sentiments from Simon Says Stamp Forest Scenery. I also added Garden Blooms sequins to the card.

If you want to, you can add some white dots around the centers with a yellow paint pen.

It is fun to let the watercolor paint blend and mix on the flowers.
