Happy New Year Art Journal Page

Happy New Year! It is the last day of 2022. At the end of a year I often do an art journal page reflecting back and reaching forwards. I made this page first thing in the morning today and what better way to start the last day of the year than with some crafting.

I used a coral base for the page and combined it with light turquoise and sparkly silver, trying to create a hopeful feel for the new year. 2022 has been a rough year on many levels, but there was also much to be grateful for. I hope 2023 will somehow become a peaceful year, and that my boys will be healthy.

I worked in my Dylusions Small Creative Journal and coated it with gesso.

When dry, paint with Distress paint. I mixed Abandoned Coral into white paint for a lighter shade of coral and also added some Dried Marigold. Mist with water and dabb with a paper towel to create texture.

Stamp sentiments here and there using various stamp sets. This one comes from Simon Says Stamp All Seasons Tree

Stars were also die cut from the Luxe Glitter paper using the Simon Says Stamp Stars die. The starburst stamp in the background is one of my favorite elements on this page.

More stamped words, this time from Simon Says Stamp Forest Scenery.

I stamped two borders under the years. Tim's Worn Text stamp set is one of my favorite alphabet/numbers sets.

I have used this sentiment stamp from Simon Says Stamp Document It quite a bit this year and thought it also worked great on a new year's page.

Christmas Flower Mixed Media Canvas

Merry Christmas to everyone! I am sharing my last Christmas project of the year, a mixed media canvas with dimensional flowers.

My canvas board is 6x6 in, but you can also do the project in other sizes or do the techniques on a card or in an art journal page. The background was done with Distress Paint, stencils, texture paste, grit paste and Rock Candy glitter and has a fun festive shimmer. It doesn't have to be a Christmas project, just change the sentiments.

Coat the canvas with gesso and when dry add Texture Paste through the Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles stencil with a palette knife.

Smear Distress Ink on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water. Press the papers into the ink. Let dry and repeat until you are happy with the look.

Repeat the process with Distress Oxide ink, using only a little ink.

Glue the flowers and leaves together and then shape with Tim Holtz Shaping Tools.

I stamped a sentiment from Simple Sayings on Christmas Backdrops paper and also added a Quote Flair.

Glue the flowers to the canvas and layer the leaves around them.

The background has many layers: paint, texture paste circles, smaller circles, stamping, grit paste and glitter.

The Snowfall Grit Paste and Rock Candy glitter add a great shimmering look to the circles, while also letting the paint, pink dots and stamping show through. I used the same products to create snow on my Christmas Clock posted a couple of days ago.

I also added a few Clippings Stickers.

The flowers have quite a bit of dimension and life.

Scenic Christmas Clock

Hi friends! Today, I have another Christmas décor project to share, a winter scene in a clock.

Layers of ink - Magical Christmas Clock Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I built a little winter/Christmas scene in a Tim Holtz Christmas Curio Clock using mainly shades of pink, turquoise and white. One of my favorite things is to create the look of snow in different ways and here I used texture paste, Rock Candy Glitter and Grit Paste Snowfall.

Ink the Tim Holtz Tree Rings folder with Saltwater Taffy and Abandoned Coral. Cut a circle from watercolor paper, mist the paper and emboss.

Glue the embossed paper to the back of the clock. I also wanted to lift the floor a little and cut a piece of mat board. Add two blocks of foam underneath, or something similar.

Layers of ink - Magical Christmas Clock Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

Color Tim Holtz Baubles and Bubbles with alcohol ink. Place a few drops of alcohol ink in a plastic bag and place the baubles in the bag. I colored some Heirloom Roses too, but ended up not using them.

Fill a Tim Holtz Snowglobe with baubles and bubbles, using some without color too. Sprinkle mica flakes into the globe.

I kept the globe upside down in the wooden base when filling it up.

Color Tim Holtz trees with Distress Paint. I used two shades of pink on the larger tree and Salvaged Patina on the smaller one.

When dry, add some Dina Wakley white paint to the pine needles, as snow.

I painted the horns of a deer with Salvaged Patina. The candy canes and Salvaged Deer were painted with matte medium and covered with Rock Candy Glitter. I added some glitter to the trees too.

Layers of ink - Magical Christmas Clock Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Add texture paste as snow.

The silver rim of the clock was painted white. Apply a thick layer of texture paste to the clock and press the embellishments into the paste, which will act as a glue.

The nose of the deer was painted with Dried Marigold before adding the glitter.

Add mica flakes to the paste and then sprinkle with Rock Candy glitter.

Layers of ink - Magical Christmas Clock Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I also added bubbles and baubles directly to the snow.

The Rock Candy adds a really nice glittery and frosty effect.

I painted the base of the snowglobe white and then coated that too with Rock Candy.

I applied Snowfall Grit Paste around the rim of the and sprinkle with Rock Candy, giving the look of frosty ice.

The snowglobe filled with mica, bubbles and baubles adds to the playful feel of the scene.

I added three Mirrored Stars to the background, splattering them with white paint.

Layers of ink - Magical Christmas Clock Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

You can add so many things into the clock since there is quite a bit of space.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. The project doesn't have to be a Christmas one since the Curio clock is great also for general winter scenes.
