Happy Birthday Journal Page

Hello friends! We are celebrating our 12th birthday at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog! 12 years of creativity and challenges. I wish I knew how many projects that have been created in those 12 years.

This week we have a 'Happy Birthday' theme and I hope you will join us. Since it is the first Monday of a new month the team is showcasing products by a specific designer/company and this week it is Dina Wakley. You can find Dina's fantastic journals, stamps, stencils, paints and other media here. You don't have to use her products to join, but it is always fun if you do. 

We also have a new guest designer and during August Estelle Palumbo will be joining us. I hope you will visit her blog Atouscrap to see the gorgeous project that she has created.

I made an art journal page to celebrate the 12th birthday of the Monday Challenge. The page is done on a cotton watercolor page in Dina's Blue Edition Media Journal and I used stamps, paints and sprays by Dina, mixed with some Simon Says Stamp exclusive products.

Start by applying gesso to the page.

When dry, place Tim Holtz Crackle stencil on the background and mist through it with Dina Wakley Gloss Spray Turquoise and Lime. These sprays are acrylic and won't run as you continue with the page. I liked how the spray puddled under the crackles.

Stamp the person from Dina Wakley I Am on tissue paper. Tear the edges since a torn edge disappears better in the next step.

Apply the tissue paper with gloss medium. Start with a layer of medium, carefully place the image on top and finish with another layer of medium.

Color the page with Dina Wakley Media Heavy Body Paints. I used Tangerine and Ocean (the yellow was included by mistake). I also did some painting with the Lime spray. When dry, stamp the page here and there with a script stamp from Simon Says Stamp Document It and additional sentiments.

The page was also stamped with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background and a circle from Mix and Match Circles.

Adventure Awaits comes from Simon Says Stamp On The Horizon and the dotted border is from Mix and Match Circles. I also added Tim Holtz Design Tape Trims.

The numbers were die cut with Tim's Alphanumeric Script dies from Simon Says Stamp Black glitter paper.

Don't worry about perfection when painting the page. I used both a paint brush and a palette knife.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Birthday from glitter paper and stamp the rest of the sentiment.

The Simon Says Stamp Clipping Heart was die cut from teal glittery paper.

Here's a close-up of the cool crackle effect. Since the spray seeped under the stencil in some areas there are both negative and positive crackles. The sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Squares.
