Summer Journals

Hi friends! Today I have two summery journals/notebooks/sketchbooks to share. These are quick to make and are great gifts.

I used the Simon Says Stamp May Brushed Flowers Card Kit to make these, but you can also get the products separately. Any patterned paper that you like will work great. The albums are perfect for papers that are so pretty that you hardly want to cover any of the design. These patterned papers are Prima's Painted Florals.

Start by gluing the papers to Sizzix Little Sizzles Mat Board, or another sturdy surface such as chipboard. Mine are 4.2 x 6 in. I used matte medium to glue the paper and placed them under a heavy book.

Round the outer corners and sand the edges to reveal some of the white core of the paper.

Punch holes with a Crop-a-dile and cut papers for the inside. I enjoy being able to use my favorite papers and use papers which fit with the purpose of the journal. If it is meant for watercolor sketching, I will use watercolor paper. These are more meant to be notebooks or journals so I used a smooth white paper.

I used the orange flowers on the blue journal. The design of this patterned paper is so pretty.

For the label, I cut pieces from left-over patterned paper (the backside of the papers), rounded the corners and sanded. The sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Laugh in Flowers.

Use a coordinating color for the flowers.

The second journal has pink as its accent color and I used the pink and white cardstock from the card kit to matte the label.

Round the corners for a soft look and place a small piece of lace over the label. The flowers were left white. The sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Mixed Labels.

These are the back covers of the journals. You can also used a neutral cardstock here and save the patterned paper for even more journals.

Bind the books with Tim Holtz Mini Book Rings.

I like having a couple of journals/notebooks ready, in case I need a quick gifts.
