Winter Leaves Art Journal Page

Hello crafters! Today I have an art journal page to share with a fun stamping technique to create the look of frost or snow.

I was inspired to do this art journal page on one of my walks. It was -18C, but no snow, so the leaves on the path were visible, but covered with frost. It was such a beautiful combination of shades of brown and white. Leaves aren't only for autumn projects, but have a presence in our lives all year around. I wanted to create the look of layered leaves on a forest path.

I used the Simon Says Stamp Real Leaves set, which is one of the stamp sets that I designed. The leaves were inked with shades of brown Distress Ink, misted about three-four times with water, before stamping on watercolor paper.

Apply embossing ink along the edges of the leaves, and dab here and there. Aim for a random and uneven look. Sprinkle with white embossing powder and emboss. Always be very careful when using a heat tool and never touch the melted powder until it has cooled down completely.

Ink some of the edges a little darker with Ground Espresso. 

I worked on a cotton-rag page in my Dina Wakley Blue Edition Media Journal. It was first coated with gesso and when dry, I applied texture paste through the Simon Says Stamp Chunky Sweater stencil. Let dry and repeat at the top.

Paint with watered-down Frayed Burlap and Pumice Stone Distress Paint.

Apply glue around the edges with a glue stick. Let dry until sticky. Place foil with the shiny side up and rub. This gives a rough foiled effect. I also applied some Gilded Avocado Opal Blaze Polish on the non-foil areas.

Stamp labels from Simon Says Stamp Mixed Labels with brown ink and stamp sentiments on the labels. This sentiment comes from the Forest Scenery set. Layer the leaves on the background. 

I added some additional sentiments from Tim Holtz Clippings Stickers.

The title was die cut from white paper. There are also some more stamped sentiments.

 

These beautiful branches were die cut with the new Simon Says Stamp Etched Delicate Frond die.

Leaves are such fun to layer. 

The shine from the Gilded Avocado glace is hard to capture on a photo, but here you can see a hint of it.

The foil is very shiny and looks different depending on the angle you look at it from.
