Watercolor Pears Art Journal Page

Hi friends! I hope you are well and that you had a good weekend. Today I have an art journal tutorial to share.

I have always liked pear stamps and thought I'd do a pear-themed art journal page. I believe that I did an apple art journal page the last time we had this theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. You can find that page here. I used easy techniques with Distress Ink and micro glaze here, working in my Dylusions Small Creative Flip Journal.

Stamp three pears from Stamper's Anonymous Classics #16 with Archival Jet Black ink on watercolor paper.

Smear green shades of Distress Ink on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water. Pick up with a paintbrush and watercolor the pears.

Apply Distress Micro Glaze to the pears with your finger. The glaze will protect the pears from the ink which will be added in the following steps.

Smear Distress Inks in horizontal lines on a non-stick craft sheets, starting with Salvaged Patina at the top. Mist with water and press the paper into the ink. The glaze will resist the ink.

When dry, you can add more Distress Ink as above and I also added a little Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide ink. Smear on the craft sheet, mist with water and just dab the paper into the ink here and there, don't smooch it. This will create a speckled and textured effect.

I thought the pears needed a surface to stand on and decided to stamp a table cloth or perhaps a table. I used the Simon Says Stamp Solid Grid Background stamp. Ink with Ground Espresso, mist with water and stamp. Again, the micro glaze will resist the ink.

Stamp sentiments and a dragon fly using the Stamper's Anonymous Classics #16 and Classics #17 sets. Stamp the background here and there with the Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background stamp and Hickory Smoke Archival Ink. This creates the look of an old crackled wall.

These pears were such fun to color and I really like the script in the background. Scribble a shadow underneath them with a black pen,

Background stamps are so versatile and useful, as in this case, where the Solid Grid Background was turned into a table cloth or an old table. I also used a few Clippings Stickers.

The Distress Oxide ink creates these opaque spots, which almost shine.
