Grey Weather Art Journal Page

Hi friends! I hope you had a good weekend. Today, I have an art journal page to share with you, but with techniques that can be used for anything.

We have a Favorite Technique theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog this week. Since it is the first Monday of a new month, the team is showcasing products by a specific designer/company and this week it is Paper Artsy. You can see Paper Artsy's wonderful range of products here. You don't have to use their products to join us in the challenge, but it is always fun if you do.

Since it is a new month, we also have a new guest designer and this month it is Makena MB aka avant_card on instagram. Don't miss her fantastic projects with lots of textures and details.

We are having grey weather at the moment and this page was inspired by that weather. I used different colors than I often do, inspired by a magical, misty forest walk. The mist makes everything quiet. As the quote on the left-hand page says 'there is only different kinds of good weather'. We have a similar saying in Swedish, namely that 'there is no bad weather, only bad clothing'. I used Paper Arty's Infusions Colored Stains and their wonderful sentiment stamps by Alison Bomber.

There is no way I could ever pick a favorite technique, since I have way too many favorites. Instead, I did a few different techniques, a watercolor background with texture, white embossing on vellum, using words, quotes and old book paper and using a mix of papers and surfaces.

I worked in my Dina Wakley 6x6 in White Journal. Mist the page heavily with water and sprinkle a little Violet Storms and Sleight Blue Infusions Colored Stains on top. Add just a tiny bit of The Sage. Mist with more water and dabb off some of the color with a paper towel. Add more Infusions and more water until you are happy with the look.

Inspired by the grey weather, I applied Asteroid Stickles through the SSS Large Dots stencil. Let dry.

White emboss sentiments from Paper Artsy Magic & Wonder Edition and Sunshine & Rain sets by Alison Bomber, on vellum. I love the quotes that Alison picks for her stamp sets.

Cut and tear the vellum and turn the pieces around. Draw a border with a white Prismacolor pencil.

I am very fond of using old book paper in my projects and like bringing the old, often discarded, books to new life. I often intentionally pick certain sections from a book or a page, which relates to my project. In this case, I used a book about gardening and a section about moisture. Die cut with the Bold Thankful Die from the DieCember release.

Die cut the Simple Stem, also from DieCember, from SSS purple glimmery paper and holographic paper. Later I also die cut it from book paper.

I started out with just this page, and the quote about the weather didn't fit well, since it was too similar in size to the thankful word. So I decided to use the left-hand page too and make a spread instead.

The background was done in the same way, but I only added the silver dots on the left-hand side, for variation.

I splattered the pages with a little white gloss spray too, but forgot to take a step photo of that.

This is a great quote, although there are of course bad weather conditions too, particularly when there is too much or too little sunshine, rain and snow, or too much wind.

Ranger's jars of Stickles contain larger glitter and pieces too, here there are small sequins or silver discs in the gel, adding interest.

I die cut the word from the purple glimmery paper too, to make it stand out better. The label tape is by Tim Holtz.

Something we might need to be reminded about now and then.

I love using Infusions Colored Stains for backgrounds since they create such interesting and unpredictable results. I particularly like the areas where the color feathers out into the white paper, as you can see here.

The SSS holographic papers are so cool. It is a little hard to photograph the shiny, multicolor effect. Here you can see that I picked this paper since it reflects both purple/pink and a blueish shade.

I hope you will join us this week in our Favorite Technique challenge. You have a chance to win a $25 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until next Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.

  2. Gorgeous!! I love how you turn grey weather into a thing of beauty. That background is amazing Anna-Karin, and I love that saying about weather and clothes - I tried for years to teach that to my students, dress for the weather! hugs, Maura
