Steampunk Gnome

Hello friends! Monday is here and I have a fun Steampunk Gnome tag to share with you, with stamping, colored pencils and various odds and ends that I found on my desk.

We are celebrating STAMPtember® this whole month at Simon Says Stamp. We have a Steampunk challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog this week, and if you follow me on Instagram, you might notice that the sneak peek I posted yesterday was not of this project. I had looked at the wrong date and made a project for a future challenge and it was anything but steampunk, so I quickly made something new.

Don't miss the project by our September guest designer Tracy Ware. You can see her beautiful creations at her Instagram account here.

I got this idea that it would be fun to use a gnome on a steampunky project, since the two usually don't go together. The steampunk elements are mainly the background, metal pieces, numbers and sentiment, but I did color the gnome in darker shades than normally and stamped him a crackle stamp.

For the background, I used the SSS Reverse Crackle Background Stamp, which is perfect when you need a quick background. I stamped it with embossing ink and embossed it with Ranger's Mixed Media Sea and Hammered powders, adding extra Hammered powder to the base. These powders have a mix of larger and smaller pieces and therefore don't show fine details so well, but I was looking for that imperfect crackled background. If you want the crackles to show more clearly, use a fine embossing powder instead.

One of the SSS Spring Gnomes was stamped on kraft cardstock with black ink and colored with colored pencils. I used Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. Even though this was meant to be a spring stamp, it is perfect for autumn too, just color the leaves in autumn shades.

Stamp the gnome in a few areas with the Crackle Background stamp, just to add texture.

I had these thin strips of paper on my desk left-over from trimming cardstock for a card yesterday. I had absentmindedly rolled one into a coil - I very often that with strips of paper. I had these coils of paper all over my desk when I was a child too. It is also one of the reasons why I like quilling.

The Sprocket Gears were distressed with Patina and Pitch Black alcohol ink.

I used a sentiment from Tim Holtz's Small Talk sticker book. The hearts were die cut from SSS black glittery cardstock with the Windows To My Heart die and was a left-over from another project.

And another sentiment from Tim's Thought Tokens.

Here you can see the crackle stamping on his hat a little better. The Numeric number was colored with Patina ink.

I didn't like the crackle that was stamped on his beard, so I covered most of it up with a white pencil. The large gear was colored with alcohol ink and then embossed with some Hammered powder. There is also a game spinner and I used a piece of Label Tape as a border.

I hope you will join us this week in our Steampunk challenge. You have a chance to win a $25 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until next Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
