Yellow Roses

Hi crafters! I hope you are well and that you had a good weekend. We watched Harry Potter movies and were outdoors a lot, with the youngest family member collecting snails and me taking photos and enjoying all the shades of green. The trees are literary getting greener for each passing day. May just might be my favorite month of the year.

Today I have a quick art journal page to share with a trio of roses. It can also be a card or the background for a tag.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Spritz and Splatter theme. Fun!! Since it is the first Monday of a new month the team is showcasing a specific company/designer. This week it is Paper Artsy. You can see their wonderful range of stamps and media here. You don't have to use Paper Artsy products to join, but it is always fun if you do.

Don't miss the first project by our May guest designer Cath Wilson, with her gorgeous blog Inky Fingers.

This page started with the quote from one of Alison Bomber's fantastic quote sets by Paper Artsy. I love all of these sets, the quotes are wonderful and fit so many themes, and the size and font is great. The quote inspired me to use a butterfly and since the butterfly needed some nature, I also added the Simon Says Stamp Rose Trio Stencil. The page was done in my 6 x 6 White Journal by Dina Wakley, and for the splatters I used Paper Artsy Infusion Colored Stain, which are so fun and easy to use.

Start by misting the page heavily with water. Sprinkle a little Infusions Colored Stain. I have made a small hole in the lids, since you need very little powder. I used Golden Sands and The Sage. Mist with more water to blend.

When the background was dry, I inked through the Rose Trio stencil, with Distress Inks. Use a Detail Blending Tool for some of the areas, especially to avoid getting green on the roses. I also added two extra leaves.

Mist slightly with water and sprinkle more Infusions powder in some areas, to add texture. Don't use too much water, since the roses might disappear then.

When dry, splatter with white acrylic paint.

Stamp the sentiment from The Happiness Edition with brown ink, cut into strips and ink the edges.

Glue the strips to the page. I also die cut hearts from SSS white glitter paper, using Tim Holtz Falling Hearts die.

This is one of my favorite areas on the page, where the yellow rose fades into the darker textured area.

The SSS Stitching Butterfly was die cut from old book paper, with brown cardstock for the body. If you are making a card, you can add dimension to the butterfly's wings, but since I worked in an art journal, I kept them flat.

For another project using the beautiful Trio of Roses stencil, check out my Mixed Media Rose Canvas. The stencil comes from the new SSS Sunny Days Ahead release.

I hope you will join us this week in our Spritz and Splatter Challenge. As always, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until next Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.

  1. This is so beautiful, Anna-Karin - I love your Infusions roses, with those wonderful random inky splotches bringing them to life. And of course I love the words - they work so beautifully in the coordinating brown ink.
