Pink Penguin Tag Tutorial

Hello friends! I hope you had a fun weekend! We played with lego and went for walks. Yesterday the sun was shining and Leo and I spent three hours in the forest, walking, looking at dragonflies, moss, stones, birds and mushrooms, and finding pinecones and various sticks. I also sorted through some last boxes, and was happy to find my white embossing powder. I looked for it like crazy for a project last week, and only found a jar that was almost empty. I knew I had at least two different jars of powder somewhere. That box had ended up among the Christmas boxes. 

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have an All Things Pink theme, since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a very important theme. Don't miss the project by our October guest designer, Jo, with her blog Let's Art Journal.

I made a tag, with a cute character and an important message, namely that you are important. Something that we all need to be reminded of regularly. I used various shades of pink, in combination with turquoise and a little bit of grey. 

I found the tag in a scrap box last week, and put it on my desk so that I would use it soon. The stencil paste dots were added a couple of days ago, when I had leftover paste that I didn't want to waste. If I remember correctly, the base of the tag is patterned paper (I think it is one of Tim's papers), coated with gesso and then painted with watered down Distress Paint. I don't remember if I made it here or in South Africa. I like to find little pieces that I made in the past and turn them into a new project. It's like that past occasion comes along to the present, a bit like time-travelling, but not as confusing. 

The dots were inked with Worn Lipstick, and I also used it around the edges of the tag.

Die cut the word from pink SSS Glitter cardstock and from glimmery paper.

The Stitched Flakes were die cut from scrap pieces of pink papers, one watercolored paper, and one glossy that had been brayered with dye ink. I also die cut some from white glitter paper, and from glimmery paper. I didn't use all of them.

I wanted a soft look to the Picture Book Hugging Penguin and die cut most of her from felt, using grey felt instead of black for the darker parts. The feet were die cut from Coal Glimmery cardstock, the eyes from black cardstock and the nose from a piece of inky orange paper.

Hearts were die cut from glitter paper with the Clipping Heart die. I love the SSS glitter paper since it is super glittery, and looks like real glitter, but doesn't give off any glitter. Be prepared to see it a lot during the holiday season.

Tie a lace ribbon to the tag and glue some snowflakes and hearts.

The main character was glued on top of a piece of cheese cloth and a lot of snowflakes. Tuck one of the hearts underneath her arms.

Die cutting shapes from scrap papers is a great way to use up scraps, but also gives wonderful variation to the pieces, and saves time. I always keep my scrap paper close to my work area, and look there first, before coloring a paper to use.

Glue the big word with the white die cut offset a little. Continue the sentiment with a sticker and with alphabet stamps.
