Inky Bird Art Journal Page

Hello stampers! I hope you had a good weekend! We had our first morning with frost today, and luckily I had packed out all the mittens and hats yesterday. Our weekend was full of fun stuff, two soccer games, one bicycle competition, and a trip to a second-hand store. I found some beautiful old school books, Anton found a vintage, but still working, stop-watch and some old coins, and Leo got lego.

It is a new week and our theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is Stitch It. Don't miss the beautiful project by our September guest designer Anne Redfern.

I made an art journal page this week, and used one of the gorgeous papers in Tim Holtz's Abandoned paper stash as a background. I enjoyed working with the dark blue, yellow and orange/brown color combo. The page is done in my square (8 x 8 in) Dylusions journal, and I used the Perched Bird die by Memory Box as my focal point. The die looks like it has faux stitched elements, and I also did quite a bit of messy stitching on the page itself.

Start by die cutting the bird from heavystock paper. This die has wonderful details.

Separate into two parts and color with Distress Inks. I used a combination of the mini-round ink blending tool, Detailed Blending Tools, and one Distress Marker. I wanted the frame pretty dark, and used the marker to avoid tearing it.

The big title word was die cut with Poppy Stamps Luscious Script Sending. I die cut it from glossy cardstock, since I love the vibrant shades of dye inks you get when inking glossy cardstock. The top word was inked with Blueprint Sketch and Chipped Sapphire and the mat was inked with Shabby Shutters and a little Peeled Paint. Later, I also die cut the mat in black, to give it a shadow.

I die cut the bird from black cardstock too, and used as a base, off-setting it a little bit. Lots of messy stitching around the bird, which got even messier since Anton was timing me with his new vintage stop-watch, wanting to go for a walk.

The hearts were die cut with the new SSS Thinking of You Heart, from the new STAMPtember release. They were actually left over from a project that I will post in a couple of days, and were die cut from papers in the Abandoned paper stash.

The pretty butterflies come from Tim's Curiosities sticker book and were inked around the edges with brown ink. I used Small Talk stickers as sentiments.

The little blue birds were die cut with Poppy Stamps Greenhoouse Potted Plants set, from glossy paper inked with the same blue inks as the word. I just love to add little birds to projects.

'Happiness' was stamped with the Wishing Mandala set and inked with orange Distress Inks.

I stitched the page before adhering it to a page in my art journal.

  2. I love the earthy autumnal tones of this, but with that shaft of golden sunlight still lighting up with the bright yellows. I just love the effect of the light catching the top edge of the heart. Fabulous!
