Nativity Scene Tutorial

Hi everyone! Today, we went to a traditional Christmas market, which was really nice, even though it was a little crowded. I have a tutorial on the Sizzix blog for a beautiful Christmas décor to share with you. It’s a nativity scene made using neutral colors and placed in a shadow box.

Layers of ink - Nativity Scene Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. With the Sizzix Celebrating Life collection.

I used dies from the new beautiful Celebrating Life collection by Luisa Elena Guillén-K. One of my most precious Christmas decorations is a nativity scene that I made myself when I was around 7 years old. It carries a lot of meaning, and we arrange the pieces in the same way every Christmas. So when I saw the Natividad (Nativity) set, I knew I wanted to make another nativity scene. I wanted it to be tactile, and used a combination of dry embossing, felt, burlap and cheese cloth to achieve that.

You can find the steps and close-up photos on the Sizzix blog.

  1. You are an amazing designer, Anna-Karin! Love your artistic flair & how you combine things without it looking like a mess. That is not true of many mixed media designers. I know everyone likes different things & that's good. Beautiful nativity--another treasure for your family! Came by to tell you how much I love the snowflake wall-hanging on the SSS blog--so inspiring! Wishing you & your family a blessed holiday season.
