Hello everyone! I hope your weekend has been good so far. Ours is drawing to an end as I type this. We started the weekend with a fun class party, which I helped organize. On Saturday, Anton and I went for a walk to a second-hand store and he loved looking through drawers and boxes of old things. I bought some Christmas gifts, and a ceramic bird for myself (I have little bird collection).
A while ago, I posted a Mini Magazine Holder that I made with dies from Eileen Hull's new Sizzix release Book Club, and here comes the tutorial for that project, since the dies will be available soon.
I made a mini magazine holder, although I haven't quite decided what to put in it yet - a minibook maybe, or scraps of paper. I always liked this type of magazine holders, and was happy to see that there will be a die for a small version.The magazine holder is about 5 x 4.8 in and has a happy feel to it. I have lots of ideas for this die. The Book Club collection consists of very versatile dies that can be used for many different projects: 3-D, home decor, organisation and storage, cardmaking, mini books, art journaling, scrapbooking and more.
Start by die cutting the Card Box, Planner Storage & Organizer from mat board. You need the Extended Cutting Pads since this is an XL die. Coat it with gesso.
Paint with a light coat of Sky paint mixed with white.
I used stencils by Stencil Girl. The bird was placed as a mask before adding the paint. I went with an ombre look with three shades of blue and turquoise by Dina Wakley. Remove the bord. The half circles were wiped off with a slightly moist cloth, before the paint dried completely. Sand the edges to reveal some of the white mat board.
Stamp a sentiment on the other side of the holder and use a text stamp to add texture here and there.
Die cut vines, flowers and words using the Floral Arch & Words and ink with Distress Inks.
Paint a Quote Chip with Distress Paint.
Assemble by first gluing the flap on the end and there after the base piece. Add a couple of word stickers to extend the sentiment.
The little girl from Tim Holtz Paper Dolls was colored with Distress Inks, and placed as if she is sitting on the bird.
You can cut up the vine to create flower stems.
This is the back of the holder, with one of my favourite sentiment stamps.
I couldn't help myself but to add some additional birds.
This girl is dancing on top of the vines.
The Qoute Chips fit perfectly at the back.
And the holder is ready to be filled with little books, papers, cards or anything else you can think of.
