Stamping with Stencils Tutorial

Hello everyone! A big thank you to everyone who commented on my Simon Says Stamp One of a Kind blog hop post on Friday. I had such fun reading all the comments. We had a fun weekend here with Midsummer celebrations, a bike ride and a visit to a neighbouring town.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Stencil It challenge. It is also the last week for our June guest designer Anne Redfern. She has made amazing projects this month and we are happy she was our guest.

I haven't stamped with stencils for a while and decided to do that for this week's challenge. I did a page in my Dina Wakley Media Journal, working on one of the watercolor papers. The journal also has canvas, burlap and kraft papers. As always, the techniques work for almost any type of project.

Start by inking up the stencil with Distress Inks. Mist it with water and press on the page. I used Dina's Fractured Circles stencil.

Before wiping off my stencil, I pressed it on a piece of cardstock too, to get a second impression to use for another project.

When dry, add stamping to the page, using both word, texture and circle stamps. I used grey and black inks.

Stamp a woman with Black Soot Archival Ink on watercolor paper and cut it into a tag shape. Use the We R Memory Keepers Angle Corner Chomper to cut the two top corners.

I smeared Texture Paste through the Alphabetic stencil to add detail to the tag.

When the paste is dry, color the tag with Scribble Sticks. I applied them straight to the tag for the hair and shirt, but for the grey background and the letters, I picked the color up from the tip of the crayon with a paint brush instead, to have more control. When dry, stamp with additional words.

I embellished the page with die cuts, such as this You die cut, which is a favourite of mine.

Today is the first word of a new One of a Kind die called Big Day.

The sentiment was stamped with Dina's Handwritten Quotes set.

Here's a look at the texture paste letters.

I also splattered the page using the black Scribble Stick. It is very easy. Place a drop or two of water on the crayon and flick a paint brush across the tip.

I like to stamp these types of small words more than once without reinking.

The white uneven circles look fun and I like the way the inks blend. An important message for an art journal page too.

I hope you will join us this week in our Stencil It challenge and explore some new textures for your projects. As every week, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
