A little ship tag

Hello friends! It's been a quiet on the blog because we have been away on holiday. We stayed at a summer house close to the sea together with my family and had a wonderful time. The cousins played non-stop and had such fun. The two little cousins (they are born just two weeks apart) loved to stand at a red currant bush eating berries. I took my watercolours along and enjoyed practicing and doing some plein air painting. I'll do a post about that sometime soon.

While we were away, Simon Says Stamp released a Masterpiece Box with a whole lot of products from different companies. The limited offer box contains products that haven't been released yet. Very cool.

It is Monday again, and this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Nautical and By the Sea challenge.

I made a tag this week, with pastel colours and fun textures. My plan was for the little boat from the Simon Says Stamp Sail Away set to sail on the open seas, on the crest of a wave, into the sunset. I also used two lovely sentiments from the same stamp set.

The tag was first covered with torn pieces of old book paper, and you can see it peek through here and there. I coated it with gesso, using a palette knife and forming the gesso to look like waves.

In the sky area, I pressed down the lid of a Distress Paint bottle, and used a paint brush to make the gesso look a little like clouds. When the gesso was dry, the tag was painted with Prima's watercolours, applying them thickly, with very little water. I will do a tutorial on this technique later, I didn't have time to take step photos when I made the tag since I was hurrying to get read before we left for the holiday. When the paint was dry, I wiped a lot of it away with a paper towel.

The little boat was stamped on a left-over piece of watercolour canvas - it came from my Wonderful Watercolour Notebook video tutorial, and on a piece of music patterned paper. As you can see, the canvas was already white embossed with the Tiny Alphabet background stamp, which I also used with black ink on the background of the tag.

The edges of the tag were painted with Black Soot, and I also stamped it with the Specks stamp, to add more texture. The sentiments were stamped on more left-over watercolour canvas.

  10. Your tag is gorgeous, Anna-Karin! Your brush strokes are perfect for an ocean feel and draw the eye to a place where it actually looks like the boat is sailing through rough waters. The colors are amazing and I adore that little sailboat.
