Watercolour Tree Journal Page

Hi and welcome to another Monday! I hope you had a great weekend and managed to get some time to craft. We spent quite a bit of time outdoors in the beautiful spring weather. This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge we have an April Showers Bring May Flowers theme. There are lots of options with this great theme.

I was in a spring mood and decided to play around with the new Prima watercolours and paint a scene in my art journal, celebrating all the bright green colours of spring. There are also some flowers in the grass. I started taking step photos, but then had such fun that I forgot the rest. Just looking at this art journal page makes me feel calm, which is exactly what I was aiming for.   

To reserve white for the clouds, I used Ranger's Distress Micro Glaze. Try to avoid getting glaze where you plan to stamp. To see the glaze in action, check out this Distress Resist Video tutorial of mine. And speaking of videos, there will be new ones coming soon. I am busy sorting out the lights in my studio so that I can record more easily, and not having to be outdoors (it has been too cold!). I worked on watercolour paper.

For this page, I used Prima's new Tropicals watercolours set. I mixed up all the colours before starting to paint and used two shades of yellow, two of blue and two mixes of blue and yellow. The sky was painted with clean water first, while I didn't do that for the grass. As you can see, the Distress Micro Glaze resists the paint. 

 I splattered just a tiny bit of dark blue paint at the top of the sky to add some texture. This sentiment was stamped with Potting Soil ink and comes from the Simon Says Stamp One With Nature set.

Here you can see the resist effect better. I love the look of the blue and yellow paint merging. When the background was dry, I painted some birds.

The tree comes from Darkroom Door's Gum Trees set. I inked it with Peeled Paint and Forest Moss and used a Ground Espresso Distress Marker to add brown to the trunks and branches. Mist with water about four times and then stamp. When the tree was dry, I added some dry brushing on top, to give it more texture.

The fence was painted with a paint and I used a watercolour pencil to add some texture to it, and underneath it. I also painted a shadow. Stamp the sentiment with Potting Soil ink,

In front of the tree, you'll find a shadow and I also painted some grass and flowers. The white flowers were done with Dina Wakley's white acrylic paint.
