Distressed Metal Tag

Hello friends! I hope you had a great weekend! We had really weird weather yesterday; cold, with snow, hail and sun at the same time. Thank you to everyone who commented on my Simon Says Stamp My Favorite blog hop post, I had such fun reading all the comments. It is Monday and a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, and this week the challenge is Show us your Metal. Metal is one of my favourite materials.

I made a distressed metal tag. Without much of a plan, I started tearing foil tape and applying it to manila cardstock, from which I die cut a tag. After spotting some left-over Tim Holtz rub-ons on my desk, I started applying them to the tag and really liked the result, so much that I almost didn't want to cover it up.

After applying the rub-ons, I sanded the tag (I usually do that outdoors) and then applied alcohol ink to make the metal look old and worn.

While I was working on the background, the mail came and I got a parcel from Simon Says Stamp with some new Tim Holtz stamps, such as Vintage Auto, Dapper and Label Frames. They were inked up within five minutes, which might be a record.

On the Distress Archival Ink Mixed Media pad, you get four different pads. It is great value, and if you also get the reinkers, it will last a very long time. I use my Jet Black Archival Ink on a daily basis, and I have never gotten a new ink pad, I simply reink it when needed. A label was stamped with the Vintage Photo Archival Ink on manila cardstock. I stamped the car with Black Soot, and the text and numbers with a Hickory Smoke and Vintage Photo, stamping on scrap paper once first.

Since Archival Inks are permanent, nothing will happen to them when you use techniques involving water, in difference to Distress Inks which are meant to react with water. Smear Pumice Stone on a craft sheet, mist with water and press the label into the ink. When dry, I inked the edges with Ground Espresso and used the Distress Spritzer tool and a Black Soot marker to add more texture.

I love the gold and silver Deco Sheets and was happy to see that they now also come as tape. A piece of the thicker silver tape was folded over on itself to create a glittery ribbon. But it was a little too bright for the tag, so I distressed it with Teakwood and Pitch Black alcohol ink. The two thinner pieces on the tag got the same treatment. The Deco Tape remains wonderfully shiny, but now with more of a vintage look.

I glued a few Mirrored Stars to the tag.

The label was folded and shaped a little and I added two gears distressed with alcohol ink.

I also thought the Nailheads and Hex Fasteners idea-ology pieces fit on the tag, with a little Pitch Black ink on top.

Here you can see the cool metal finish of the tag, and the distressed Deco Tape. You can also use brighter colours of alcohol ink, for a different look. I think Stream and Lettuce will look great, for instance.

Under the label, I glued an Adornment Arrow, wrapped with a piece of wire, from which a Typed Token is hanging. All were distressed with alcohol ink.

And here's a better look at the Deco Tape ribbon, tied to the tag.
