Darkroom Door Photostamp Layout

Hello friends! I hope you had a good weekend! It is Monday again and a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Our challenge this month is to make your own background, something that is one of my favourite things to do. Since this is the first Monday of the month we are also featuring a specific company or designer and this month it is Darkroom Door. You don't have to use Darkroom Door products to participate, but don't miss the wonderful inspiration by the team. Darkroom Door has gorgeous rubber stamps and a great variety. Some of my favourites are the Photo Stamps and I decided to use a whole bunch of them on layout.

When I sat down to pick a Photo Stamp to use, I just couldn't make up my mind and I got the idea of turning them into a background for a scrapbooking layout, but using six different stamps. My layout was inspired by the Adventure Quote Stamp at the bottom, since it fit very well with my son and all the fun ideas that he has. Anton recently turned six years old, and at the back of the layout I wrote about the things he likes and don't like and so on. I can hardly believe he is so big already. This photo was taken a while ago, he has grown much taller in the past months and has gone from being one of the shortest in his age group to one of the tallest.

I started by stamping the Photo Stamps with Jet Black ink on glossy cardstock, since I love the look of these stamps on glossy. They look great on Specialty Stamping Paper too, but I was in the mood for glossy today. This beautiful castle stamp is of the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany.

The stamped images were coloured with dye inks, starting with the lightest shades and gradually adding darker colours. If you start with the lightest shade, it is easier to get a good result with the darker colours. I like to use a Colorbox Stylus Tool when colouring these types of images, with oval blender tops. For a tutorial on colouring Photostamps on glossy cardstock, check out this colouring tutorial of mine. That tutorial shows how to colour photo stamps with six different mediums, and on various surfaces.

I just love this Winter Tree stamp. For the narrow areas, such as the tree branches and trunk, I use a Ranger Craft Nib with a Craft Nib holder.

This bike photo, taken in, I believe, Amsterdam, is also stunning and has so much depth. Again, I used a Craft Nib for many areas here. The Robin was also stamped on glossy cardstock and coloured the same way as the images.

After colouring, I added highlights with a white gel pen and mist by dry brushing white pigment ink on the background with a Q-tip. This is Central Park in New York.

This is the Fishing stamp. Even the sentiments were stamped on glossy cardstock. All the glossy paper looks nice on top of the rough watercolour paper. The watercolour background is Prima's 12 x 12 watercolour paper, misted with Distress Spray Stains and, when dry, stamped with the French Script background stamp and Potting Soil ink.

I hope you will join us in our Background challenge. As every week, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
