Recycled Time Tag Tutorial

I love the packaging of Tim Holtz idea-ology Sprocket Gears, with circle blisters, and I have used just parts of it before, such as a window to my Space Rocket. For a long time, I have been planning to use the whole piece of packaging on a project and this challenge was the perfect opportunity for that. I made an inky tag, on a clock theme, also using some idea-ology embellishments. 

I started out by stamping the circles with various small stamps, such as from the Correspondence set. I later removed the 'no 5' since it covered up the Typed Token I placed underneath. You can easily remove Stazon ink by using Alcohol Ink Blending Solution. 

The tag was white embossed with various Tim Holtz stamps, repeating the circle pattern on the packaging.

Ink the tag with Distress Inks and and ink blending tool and mist with splatters using the Distress Spray Mist bottle. I love the splatter effect you can get with the bottle, so much easier than flicking water drops with your fingers. 

 

When dry, stamp with a graph background stamp and Black Soot ink.

 Finally, I stamped the tag here and there with the specks background stamp and Jet Black ink.

I cut the packaging the same size as the tag and made a hole with my Crop-a-dile. I set an eyelet through the two holes, which also keeps the tags together. I used some of the actual Sprocket Gears on the tag, here together with a flower and Game Spinner.

The cheese cloth had been dyed with Distress Spray Stains, it was a leftover from my Pirate Zombie from last week.

 The specks stamp adds a nice extra texture to the background and I love this star border stamp.

I really like the look of the stamped packaging on top of the inked and stamped background. Some of the circles were left with just the stamping.

I placed embellishments under some of the circles, and the gears of course fitted perfectly, since this was their packaging after all. The metal pieces were glued with Matte Multi Medium. You have to mask out some of the circles with scrap paper when stamping with larger stamps, such as this time sentiment stamp.

The Typed Tokens fit perfectly under the smaller circles. I placed a Monocle on top to add more dimension and an extra layer.

The stamp I used here is an old favorite, the definition of 'curiosity' from the Curiosities set.

The gears also worked well together with the time theme of the tag, such as on this stamped clock.

There is also a stamped compass from Warehouse District, and some numbers and text from the Correspondence set.

This clock comes from the Tiny Things set.

At the bottom of the tag, I attached an Observations Word Band with mini staples and an inked Linen Ribbon.

It was a little hard to capture the dimension of the tag, you might see it better on this photo.
