Time is a face on the water

Hi all! I hope you had a good weekend. This week our challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog is 'faces'. Be sure to check out the great makes of my fellow DT members. I made a pretty detailed art journal page:

You probably already know that I like quotes, and maybe especially quotes from the books that I have read. The challenge theme made me think of one of my favourite quotes from Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I've done projects on these books before, for example this Unfound Door canvas. I decided to start working in my large Dylusions journal, since I have mainly used the small version. It was fun having all that space. Lots of layers of ink, stamps, and stencils, most of them by Tim Holtz. If you are familiar with the books, you'll notice that I filled the page with details and symbols from the books. In the centre you of course find the Dark Tower and I draw a bunch of circles around it. I also made my own mask by die cutting the Weathered Clock from Eclipse tape.

The number 19 is repeated with stencils, stamps and Industrious stickers. The background is inked with Distress Inks. I also inked through different stencils, such as Tim Holtz Bubble and Burlap stencils and Ronda Palazzari's Mini Subway stencil, which fit real well with the theme. Here and there the background is stamped with a crackle stamp, because things are not quite holding together and cracks have appeared in both time and space. There are a bunch of clock stamps and also some New York stamps by Darkroom Door.

Many of the stamped images were masked when I did the inking, by stamping them on Eclipse tape, and later coloured with Distress Inks and markers. In front of the tower there is a field of roses, stamped with the Specks stamp and Vermillion ink. There is also a New York dictionary stamp. The title was done with a mix of Industrious and Chit Chat stickers.

There are a several different compasses on the page. Distress Markers are great to colour these detailed images. As the final layer, I white embossed the formula stamp from The Chemist here and there.

I thought this hand worked well on a page about books, and scribbled a line from the books underneath it. There are also Black Soot splatters here and there.

Many of the stamps were placed along the drawn circle lines.

I searched through my stamps looking for someone who might resemble the main character in the books, this stamp by Brett Weldele for Tim Holtz was the closest I could get. But he was wearing a top hat, which did not work. To fix it, I didn't ink the top of the hat and instead turned it into a cowboy hat with a marker. I should maybe have removed the moustache too, but only thought of that after I had stamped the image.

I also used some gears, my favourite star stamp and Tim Holtz rub-ons. I had fun searching through my stash to find relevant details.

The quote I wanted to use was too long for the page, so instead I used just a part of it and added the full quote on the facing page (which I had dropped a stamp on by mistake). The typewriter was also masked during the inking, and coloured with blue Distress Inks. There is also a train track and a several chit chat stickers.

I hope you'll get some crafty time this week and will join us in the challenge. One random participant wins a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp and can do some fun shopping.
