A Sunset Stroll in the Park

Hello stampers! A new month and a new challenge theme at Craft a Scene, namely In the Park. There is a lot of possibilities with this theme, think of activities done in a park, different natural elements you might find in a park, park animals etc.

 

Parks make me think of walking, and I did a scene of a serene sunset walk in a park.

 

I had fun with the colours of this one. First I planned to do a daytime scene, but then I changed my mind. The scene (15 x 15 cm) is done on glossy cardstock and coloured with dye inks using a Colorbox Stylus tool, see this tutorial, or one of Kevin Nakagawa's videos. Most of the stamping was done with Archival Ink and I always plan it out on scrap paper first, testing different combinations of stamps.

 

I started colouring with the lightests inks, Adirondack Lemonade and Willow (for the grass), but leaving the areas of the water I wanted blue white. Since dye inks are transparent, if you apply blue ink on top of yellow, the blue will take on a green tint, and I wanted the blue parts of the water to be blue. The first blue layer was Adirondack Aqua. Gradually darker inks were applied. Some yellows, oranges and reds were applied to the grass, to bring it in with the rest of the scene. The sky is inked with yellows, oranges, reds, maroon, purple and black in the corners.

 

The water ripples were stamped with blue and orange ink and the birds in the sky with Aged Mahogany. Highlights were added with a white gel pen and a little bit of mist by dry-brushing white pigment ink on the scene.
