Button Cameo Frame Wall-Hanging

Hello and welcome! This week our challenge at Simon Says Stamp & Show focuses on a traditional staple supply, buttons. Show us your idea using buttons and you could be the lucky one to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp.

I love buttons and there was a time when I used buttons on almost every project. I was lucky to pick up a huge pile of vintage buttons for almost nothing quite a few years ago, and still have many of those left. They did need a good wash, I had buttons drying on paper towels all over the floor.

I love clear elements and my all-time favourite buttons are the Autumn Leaves Foof-a-la Clear Bag-O-Buttons and I decided to showcase them in a wall-hanging, using a photo of my mom as a little girl. I tinted the photo lightly with Distress Inks (Tattered Rose, Antique Linen). The base was made by covering a 6 x 6 piece of mat board with Tim Holtz French Industrial papers, using one of the 6 x 6 papers in the pad. It was inked with Gathered Twigs and misted with Biscotti Perfect Pearls spray. The butterfly comes from Tim's Tiny Things set.

I die cut Tim Holtz Cameo Frame, with an Oval insert, from grungeboard, painted and stamped with a script stamp. It was coated it with Glossy Accents and the whole frame was covered with the clear buttons.

Mica flakes and Rock Candy Glitter was sprinkled on top to fill in the gaps, and form a kind of grout. I put it aside to dry, as it dried the Glossy Accents and buttons made the frame more dimensional, but making it buckle slightly, almost looking like a padded frame. I loved the effect. Another Cameo Frame was die cut from grungeboard as a base, the photo was placed on top and I sandwiched a piece of acetate between the photo and the frame.

 Love that you can see the script stamping through the buttons and the buttons even enlarge the text slightly.

I corked vial was filled with mica flakes and I trimmed down a Chit Chat sticker to add on top.

The roses were made with the Tattered Pinecone die and die cut from kraft-core cardstock. I cut off a piece of the die cut on the smaller ones, before rolling them, to make them smaller. The roses were inked with Gathered Twigs, smeared with Antique Linen Distress Stickles and misted with Biscotti.

I also die cut the mini flourish from kraft-core cardstock and layerd it underneath the roses.

The crinkle ribbon was dyed with Tattered Rose and Antique Linen Distress Stains.
