Hero

Hello! A big thank you to everyone who participated in our blog hop last week and for all the comments on my blog. I so enjoyed reading them, and about people's memories of books and bookmarks. I will post the winner of the gift voucher on Wednesday (12 Sept). As always, Monday is the day for a new Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge and our theme this week is 'Cheers for a hero'. I hope you will join us and don't miss the gorgeous DT work, lots of very varied projects.

I had a hard time deciding on what to do for this challenge, almost too many ideas and I couldn't make up my mind. Then I saw this great sentiment about being your own hero on one of the new Stamper's Anonymous Classics sets (#5) and knew I wanted to do a page using that stamp:

I made a colourful and inky layout, using resist techniques, mist and tone-on-tone stamping for the background. I used this photo of me taken during a hike, inside a gorge, which I thought fit with the idea behind the page. This background was so much fun to make. The base is watercolour paper. First, I clear embossed several stamps from the new Stamper's Anonymous Classics sets, as well as an Impression Obsession star background stamp. I used a small bottle of multi-medium to doodle a frame around the layout. After that dried, I misted first with water and then with Dylusions ink. Love how vibrant they are and the water helped them to blend beautifully. The multi-medium resists the ink, creating a cool border. When the ink was dry, I added some tone-on-tone stamping, using the mesh stamp from the Mixed Media set, as well as some stamping with Archival Ink Jet Black for a nice contrast.

The Bird Branch was die cut from grungeboard and painted with Distress crackle Rock Candy. When dry, I used Distress Stains to add the colour. Tim Holtz describes this technique, called 'shattered stains' in his Compendium of Curiosities vol. 2 (p. 48). I added some mini staples to the staple stamp, paint to the metallic word to make it stand out and hit the brad with a texture hammer.

The three little birds were made the same way as the Bird Branch.

In my scraps, I found this piece of kraft cardstock. I used a star stencil to mist white Mister Huey mist a few weeks ago, and after I finished spraying, I took the stencil and stamped it on a piece of kraft cardstock. The tickets was cut with Mini Tickets Movers & Shapers. I love adding Game Spinners as arrows and showing direction and movement. A bit of gauze was layered under the photo.

The star is cut from the same scrap used for the two tickets.

I hope you will join us this week, as always, a lucky participant will win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp (STAMPtember celebrations last this whole month and lots of new stuff in stock!).

Thank you for looking! Have a great week!

Happy crafting!

Anna-Karin
