Because You have a Song tutorial

Hello friends! Did you have a good weekend? I hope so! It is Monday and a new Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge is up, Try to Resist. Because it is the first Monday of the month we are showcasing a brand this week, and it is one of my favourites, namely Ranger. I use something by Ranger on almost everything that I make.

I made a sweet little bird panel, using new stamps, paints and surfaces by Dina Wakley. The Scribbly Birds is one of my favourite stamp sets, and I was happy to see that you now get them in a Mini Scribbly Birdies smaller version. The six new Media Acrylic paints are simply gorgeous, and I used a bunch of them here. Resist techniques are among my absolute favourites, but I messed up a little and forgot to wipe off the paint before it dried, since I was busy with something on the computer at the same time.

To make your own tissue paper background, start with Tim Holtz new Plain Tissue Wrap and stamp it with Jet Black ink. I love this new background stamp.

When dry, apply to a 7 x 5 in Media Board with Gloss Multi Medium - one layer below and one on top.

Die cut the Simon Says Stamp Stacked Hearts from Mixed Media cardstock.

Apply to the board with more multi medium.

Add a thin layer of gesso on top.

Stamp the birds and sentiment on tissue paper. I used ordinary tissue paper for this, but you can try the Tim Holtz one too. I am not sure if it disappears as well since it is a little thicker. I would have tested it, but I was in a hurry.

These are the six new paints by Dina Wakley. So pretty. I used Ocean, Cheddar, Blushing and Fuchsia.

Mix a little bit of water into Ocean and Blushing paint and paint the background.

When dry, tear around the stamped images and apply them to the background, with one layer gloss multi medium underneath and one on top.

I used one of Tim Holtz Mini Stencils to stencil dots on the background using Transparent Gloss Texture Paste. Let dry.

 Start painting the birds.

Add paint to the background, and when that is dry, also paint some branches for the birds to stand on. I mixed Umber and Cheddar for the branches. Right before the blue paint is dry, wipe paint off from the Texture Paste dots and from the hearts. As you can see, I was distracted and wiped my paint off too late, so the resist effect is pretty subtle.

Stamp a sentiment with Jet Black ink and add shadows with Night and Black paint, mixed with water.

Finally, splatter Picket Fence paint on the background using a Distress Splatter Brush.

Here you can see the subtle resist better. If you wipe off the paint before it dries, you'll have much more of a resist effect. Raised elements on their own also gives a kind of resist, if you use watery paint, as you can see on the hearts.

I stamped the background here and there with the Simon Says Stamp Tiny Alphabet Background.

The birds were stamped with small sentiment stamps from Dina's All the Gals set. When you are done painting, draw back some of the stamped lines with a marker. This canvas was party inspired by one of my favourite art journaling pages, the Bold Birds page, it is also a tutorial, if you want to have a look.

I really like this sentiment from the original Scribbly Birds.

The birds are such fun to colour.

And this little owl is so cute! I liked pairing it up with the word 'strong'.

Here's another look at the hearts and how they become part of the background.
