Crazy Friends Shadowbox

Hello friends! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. It's been a little quiet on the blog this month because we have been in South Africa. We had a great time, enjoyed the warm weather and visited lots of people and places. Flying so far with two kids is quite a challenge, but it went okay. Today, it is Monday again and of course a new Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge. Our theme this week is food & drink.

I made a little scene in a shadow box for this week, featuring two unlikely friends sharing a cup of tea and celebrating something. There is also a smoothie cup with two straws and three bottles of milk. I guess they enjoy a lot of milk in their tea. This shadow box has now found a happy home with a good friend of mine in Johannesburg. I had fun using some new products by Tim Holtz here, such as the great Vignette Boxes. Its a tutorial.

Stamp the images with Jet Black ink on watercolour paper. It is important to use a waterproof ink. I often stamp a few extra images, especially if I haven't made up my mind. Here I used stamps from the Crazy Cats, Crazy Things and Mini Bird Crazy and Things sets.

Smear Distress Inks on a craft sheet, mist with water and pick up with a paint brush. Watercolour the images. You can use the coordinating Crazy Cats, Mini Bird Crazy and Things, Crazy Things Thinlits sets to cut these out.

When dry, use a Distress Spritzer Tool and a Black Soot marker to add some texture to the stamped images.

I love shadow boxes and was happy to see the new Vignette Boxes, which come four in a set. I used the largest one here. The edges were painted first with white gesso and then with Mermaid Lagoon and some Black Soot.

I wanted the friends to sit on a table cloth and adhered a piece of the new Textile Surfaces to cardstock. Die cut both edges with the Scallops On the Edge die.

The back wall consists of a brown Substrate Sheet embossed in the On the Go folder. The brown surface looks a bit like a brown coffee filter.

Ink both with Ground Espresso.

The Tea Time die cuts were way too big for the project, but when die cut from shrink plastic and shrunk (instructions are on the packaging), they were the perfect size. I love shrink plastic, it is so fun to use.

Stamp the cup with hearts and Stazon Jet Black ink.

Paint the back of the cup and the saucer with Picket Fence paint and let dry. Glue them together with Glossy Accents and coat them on the top too.

The Mini Fresh Brewed was die cut from different materials: the straws were die cut from black Modeling Film, and the cup from clear Modeling Film, and white and brown Substrate Sheet.

Heat the Modeling Film, so that you can shape it into a more rounded cup. Glue the other pieces on top, and add the two straws. I also coloured a Game Piece and glued it to the center.

The Small Circle paper punch is the perfect size for the Charmed Findings idea-ology embellishment. Punch a circle from watercolour paper.

Watercolour the circle with Twisted Citron and mist with the Spritzer tool. Glue to the charm and add a layer of Glossy Accents on top.

Glue the table cloth into the box with a rounded edge at the inside. To adhere most of the other pieces, I cut foam squares to place behind them.

Both friends are wearing party hats, a bigger one for the cat and a smaller one for the bird.

I just love the look of this cat, she looks a little surprised. There is a Mirrored Heart glued to her.

The bottles of milk are a fun addition to the Crazy Cats set.

I really like the Alpha Dice and used one with the number '2' on. You can also find them on my Distress Crayon canvas.

I scraped some of the paint off from the back of the cup. The Glossy Accents give a really cool and finished look to shrink plastic pieces.

On the wall there are also two Mirrored Hearts.

I like the fun detail of the two straws in the smoothie.

The Mini Bird Crazy stamps are fabulous and it is such fun to mix the birds and the cats.

At the top of the shadow box, I glued a Quote Band rubbed with Picket Fence paint.

Here you can see the cool texture of the Vignette Box better. A little Black Soot paint was dry brushed on it to increase the texture.
