Celebration Star Pop-Up

Hello! Time for celebration! Simon Says Stamp & Show has a new blog and a new name. We are now called Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog, since our challenges are posted every Monday. Our design team still focuses on vintage, grungy, shabby and artsy projects, and you never really know what you are going to get. The wide variety of projects is one of my favourite things about this great team.

We are also celebrating that the blog has existed for three years and that we have four new design team members: Andrea Ockey Parr, Meihsia Liu, Michelle Zerull and Mona Pendleton

I made a pop-up birthday card, with lots of glitter and stars.

Celebration Star Pop-Up - Layers of ink
I wanted to use some awesome Simon Says Stamp Exclusive products for this celebration challenge. For the background, and on the front, I used the fabulous Falling Stars die, as well as the Star Border. Fun sentiment stamps from both Shoot for the Stars and For the Record were used. The pop-up was made with the Sizzix 3-D Star die.

Love how the glitter peeks out behind all the die cut stars. I used more glitter than in a long, and it is all stuck down so well, no stray glitter around. First I die cut a cardbase with the pop 'n cuts base die and covered it completely with Scor-Tape on the inside and on the front. I used 1 inch Scor-Tape, simply lining it up, you don't see the joints at all in the final project. The tape was removed, one panel at a time and the card was completely covered with Ranger Stickles Fine Dry Silver glitter. After shaking off the excess glitter, I burnished it down real well, covering with scrap paper and using a bone folder.

I placed the Star pop-up in the base die, and die cut from glossy cardstock. Ink was applied with a brayer. First the whole card was brayered with Tumbled Glass. Next, I used Salty Ocean, but leaving the Tumbled Glass uncovered in the centre. I continued the same way with Faded Jeans and finally Chipped Sapphire, just at the top and bottom. This creates a great graduated effect. I love the look of dye ink on glossy cardstock.

The Falling Stars and Star Border were die cut from the inked cardstock. I also stamped the background with a Hero Arts Happy Definition stamp, using Faded Jeans - stamping it once on scrap paper first. I stamped a label, which has place for a message for the recipient, added some more stamping and Prima washi tape

The star was die cut again from patterned paper, stamped with a Simon Says Stamp sentiment stamp, which fit really well together with the star theme of the card. I die cut smaller stars from patterned paper and layered two together with a twisted wire in between. The wire was glued to the star pop-up with hot glue.

A second star was die cut for the back of the pop-up with a message stamped on top with alphabet stamps ('A big congrats on your day').

Celebrate Star Pop-Up - Layers of ink
This is the front of the card, really showcasing the Falling Stars die. A label was stamped on patterned paper and 'congrats' was stamped on top with alphabet stamps.

I cut a panel from glossy cardstock, big enough to cover the whole front and inked it with my brayer as explained above, making it gradually darker towards the top of the card. Here you can see what it looked like after brayering and before die-cutting the tiny stars.

The little 'make a wish' is a Tim Holtz rub-on.

The numbers were die cut from grungeboard, painted black and covered with Silver Stickles.

This is what the card looks like from the top.

I hope you will celebrate with us this week! As always, one lucky participant wins a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp.
