Krafty Flower Gift Packaging

Hello! This week we have a super fun challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show - use anything kraft. Kraft has been one of my favourite surfaces for a long time, I love the neutral shade and the way bright colours pop on a kraft background.

Krafty Gift Packaging - Layers of ink
This week, kraft made me think of paper bags and gift packaging, and I made two different gift packages, with pretty dimensional flowers. I made a paper bag using Tim Holtz In the Bag die and a gift box using Eileen Hull's Sizzix Candy Drawer die, both die cut from kraft resist paper. The flowers were made with the brand new Susan's Garden dies, a Poppy and a Rose. The flowers are mounted on magnets and are removable so that the recipient can use them as ornaments.

The In the Bag die looks great die cut from kraft resist paper, I really like the subtle patterns on the bag.  I embellished it with a stamped sentiment, from the Darkroom Door Bright Blossoms Vol. 1 set, a wood veneer bird, and more stamping on the back.

The Susan's Garden dies are designed by Susan Tierney-Cockburn and you can make wonderful flowers real easy with these dies. I posted a tutorial using quite a few of her flower dies here. Susan has made great videos where she shows how to make the different flowers and how to use her tool kit. It contains everything you need to make the flowers: a Leaf Tool 1mm/2mm, Stylus 5mm/8mm, Loop Tool 3mm/5mm, pair of fine-tip scissors, fine-point reverse tweezers, Molding Pad, Leaf Pad and a Non-Stick Sheet. You can find videos for the basic techniques here and here.

I used Neenah cardstock inked with Distress Inks to make the flowers. Here you can see the pieces needed to make one Poppy. The petals have been shaped, pinched and bent and the leaves have been veined and shaped a bit too. Here is Susan's video for the Poppy, to give you a better idea of the steps involved.

I used Flower Soft glue to assemble my flower and placed it on a small circle die cut from mat board and inked green, to create a base for the magnet. Yellow Flower Soft was sprinkled on the stamen and the dot in the centre is made with a Viva Paper Pen, as Susan suggested in her video.

This is the back of the bag, with a stamped Darkroom Door Bold Blossoms flower and sentiment.

The box was made with one of my favourite dies, Eileen Hull's Candy Drawer. This is a very versatile die, previously, I have used itto make a shadow box, a chest of drawers, a memory game, and another gift box. To make this box, mat board was covered with kraft resist paper, making sure to get butterflies on the drawer part. The die both cuts and scores the material, so assembly is very easy. The edges were inked with Gathered Twigs.

The drawer is embellished with a big red rose. You can make the rose as dense as you would like to, and I added quite a few petals to mine. They were all inked with Barn Door and a little bit of Fired Brick. You can see Susan's video for the Rose die here. The rose was assembled on an inked circle die cut with Tim's Sized Circles die.

The sides of the box were stamped with Darkroom Door stamps, and I used some Chit Chat stickers too. I reach for them often lately.

Here's the other side of the box. Crinkle ribbon was dyed with Antique Linen Distress Stain and tied into a bow.

Glue a magnet to the base circle with hot glue, and glue another one to the gift box, and inside the paper bag.

  13. Once again Anna-Karin you have made an unbelievable project!! Your flowers are amazing and the kraft gift bag and box are really the perfect foil for these die-cut flowers. Yes ... we can all use a die-cut machine, but not everyone (personal experience here) can put the pieces together as artfully and wonderfully as you do. Love this!
