The challenge theme for this week is 'Read all about it' (projects must include stamping since it is STAMPtember™), and one lucky participant will win a grand prize, a $100 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamps.
This was a perfect topic for me since I love books and have been a 'constant reader' since the moment I learnt how to read. I decided to make a series of three bookmarks using layers of stamps and ink.
I used to collect bookmarks as a child and every time I started to read a new book, I would also pick a bookmark from my collection to use with that book. I sometimes made my own too, I would have loved these three bookmarks then.
The ledger stamp from the Stamper's Anonymous School Desk set is the perfect size for a bookmark and was stamped with Archival Ink Coffee on manila cardstock three times. Then the bookmarks were stamped with different script and alphabet stamps using French Ultramarine Archival Ink. Archival Ink is waterproof, which was important in this case since I wanted to use mist on top. One of my favorite stamps, the Alphabet Pattern, was clear embossed on top, not covering the whole tags. The tags were misted with a mix of Vintage Photo and Scattered Straw reinker, water and Perfect Pearls. After they dried, I inked the edges with more Vintage Photo.
I punched a hole in the upper corner and used a Tim Holtz reinforcer for each bookmark.
Three images from the I Love Books set were stamped with Archival Ink Coffee. I coloured them sparingly with craft nibs and Tumbled Glass and Scattered Straw ink. The sentiment of this bookmark was stamped on a die cut ticket with the French Ultramarine ink and inked a bit. Finally, I added a piece of tissue tape, torn piece of paper from an old book and twine. On this bookmark, the base for the focal image was die cut using the Sizzix Fancy Labels Framelits and the heart for the sentiment comes from the Hearts set (love the shape of this heart). I didn't add any bulky embellishments to the bookmarks since then they wouldn't be very practical as bookmarks.
Love this tree stamp on the last bookmark and just coloured the sky very softly. The banner was cut with the Tattered Banners die.
I can’t wait to see what everyone creates on this theme!
Here's a bit of info about Simon Says Stamp:
'Simon Says Stamp was founded in 2002 with an interest in exclusively selling rubber stamps. It didn’t take long until we realized we couldn’t stop there. Over the past 10 years we celebrate rubber stamping in its full glory by giving access to people around the world to a one stop shop. Rubber stamps still remain the heart of our business and we are celebrating by hosting a “STAMPtember” ™ event intended to inspire, educate, and celebrate the greatness of rubber stamping. Part of the enticement of rubber stamping is that stamps can be used in creating or complementing ANYTHING! From stamping dates on bank documents and postage parcels in the early 18th century, rubber stamping has dramatically expanded to include card making, scrapbooking, mixed media and many forms of altering and expressing art.'
The next stop in the Simon Says STAMPtember™ Blog Hop is the fabulous Ashli Oliver, who has a very inspiring project to share. If while hopping, you encounter a broken link, you can go back to the beginning to find links to everyone who is participating in the hop.
